Members Connect Virtual Meetup – ‘Wearing two hats: the path of a clinician researcher’
Tuesday 20th May 2025, 1:00pm
Online WebinarLearn from other Franklin Women members and strengthen your professional network in this free, one hour, members only event.
From physiotherapy to pediatrics, nursing to psychology, clinician researchers (or clinician scientists) come from diverse professional and personal backgrounds.
By combining research with patient care, clinician researchers are uniquely positioned to connect patient experience with research priorities, methodology and outcomes. Despite the opportunities, navigating a career as a clinician researcher also brings its own challenges.
In this meetup, Associate Professor Mei Ling Yap, a specialist radiation oncologist and NHMRC Emerging Leader Fellow, will share her journey as a clinician researcher. She’ll reflect on the opportunities and challenges of “wearing two hats” and how she has navigated these professional challenges while also starting and raising a family. Mei will share valuable insights for those on – or curious about – a similar path.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
🌟 Authentic conversations: Explore the rewarding (and sometimes tricky) dual role of clinician researchers, acknowledging both the professional and personal impact
🤝 Network growth: Connect with like-minded women and strengthen your professional community.
💬 Safe, inclusive space: Engage in a welcoming environment where you can share, learn, and feel understood.
Whether you’re considering a clinical research path, already on the journey, or eager to collaborate with clinician researchers, this is a great opportunity to connect and learn.
Places are strictly limited to protect our interactive, intimate and inclusive environment – and keep the FW sparkle flowing! If you would like to come along, please RSVP under the ‘Tickets’ section below.
*Please note meetup time is AEST
About the Members Connect Meetup series
The Members Connect event series aims to bring together our amazing FW members to strengthen networks and provide opportunities to engage with organisations and individuals who are driving trends and leading innovative programs of work that impacts health.
We know it’s not always easy (or possible!) to attend in-person Franklin Women events due to work schedules, caring responsibilities, travel time, or because crowded event spaces aren’t for you. That’s why our Members Connect events will be hosted across Sydney, Canberra and virtually at different days and times throughout the year – and they are FREE.
