Learn from Franklin Women members and strengthen your professional network in this free, one hour, members only event.

Stepping into a leadership role is a huge achievement – but let’s be honest, it also comes with its own unique set of challenges. As women leading teams, projects, and organisations across the health and medical research ecosystem, we often navigate complex responsibilities, high expectations, and sometimes, a sense of isolation. As the saying goes, “it can be lonely at the top.”

We’re creating a space just for you – a place to connect, share, and learn from other women navigating leadership. For this meet up, we’ve invited health behaviour scientist Professor Billie Bonevski (scroll for bio), to reflect on her journey from researcher, to team lead and then to her current role as Director of the Flinders Health and Medical Research Institute (FHMRI) and Dean (Research), College of Medicine and Public Health at Flinders University – a role she moved interstate for. She’ll share her aspirations for leadership, how she’s balanced leading with caring responsibilities, and why having a support crew is essential.

Here’s what you can look forward to:

🌟 Authentic conversations: Explore the unique and shared experiences of being a female leader in the health and medical research ecosystem.

🤝 Network growth: Connect with like-minded women and strengthen your professional community.

💬 Safe, inclusive space: Engage in a welcoming environment where you can share, learn, and feel understood.

Whether you’re leading a research team, heading up an initiative, or have aspirations to step into a senior position, this online meetup is your opportunity to talk openly about the realities of leadership for women in our sector.

Places are strictly limited to protect our interactive, intimate and inclusive environment – and keep the FW sparkle flowing! If you would like to come along, please RSVP under the ‘Tickets’ section below.

*Please note meetup time is AEST

About the Members Connect Meetup series

The Members Connect event series aims to bring together our amazing FW members to strengthen networks and provide opportunities to engage with organisations and individuals who are driving trends and leading innovative programs of work that impacts health.

We know it’s not always easy (or possible!) to attend in-person Franklin Women events due to work schedules, caring responsibilities, travel time, or because crowded event spaces aren’t for you. That’s why our Members Connect events will be hosted across Sydney, Canberra and virtually at different days and times throughout the year – and they are FREE.
