Leaders Brunch 2023: Sex and Gender in Health and Medical Research

Sex and gender are important, but historically overlooked, considerations in health and medical research. There is now growing recognition that sex and gender must be appropriately incorporated into the design, analysis and translation of medical research to ensure that it is rigorous and can have a greater impact on health outcomes.

For our 2023 Leaders Brunch, we look forward to bringing together leaders from our Partner Organisations to learn about how sex and gender can impact research outcomes, share recommendations for improved consideration of sex and gender in research practice, and discuss emerging requirements from funding bodies and journals.

Guest speakers include:

⭐️ The Hon Ged Kearney – Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care and chair of the new National Women’s Health Advisory Council

⭐️ Dr Bridget Haire – senior research fellow at the Kirby Institute and an associate of the Australian Human Rights Institute

⭐️ Dr Saraid Billiards – CEO of AAMRI

We will also hear case studies from researchers spanning basic to clinical research, who have implemented sex and gender analysis in their own work. They will reflect on their lessons learned, opportunities that exist, and where more support is needed.

Up to 3 attendees from each Partner Organisation are invited to register to attend below. Attendees should be individuals in leadership roles and/or positions of influence in their respective organisations who can advocate and drive change relating to this topic.

A full pre-event briefing pack including event run-sheet, resources and some healthy snacks will be sent to all attendees before the event.
