As the end of the year draws near, our conversations and focus often shift towards the future – our goals, hopes and plans for the coming year. But before you rush ahead, we encourage you to take a moment to pause and honour the year that has been. Here our Head of Members and Community, Cara Bevington, writes on closing out 2024 with purpose.
No doubt, your 2024 has been full of its own unique mix of triumphs, challenges, lessons and connections. Reflecting on these isn’t just an act of remembering – it’s a powerful way to set the stage for the year ahead. Research highlights the value of reflective practice in both professional and personal growth, helping us recognise patterns, celebrate progress and identify areas for growth.
So, before you dive into plans for the new year, carve out some time to reflect. Grab your favourite pen and a clean sheet of paper, and find a quiet spot where you feel at ease – perhaps your go-to café, a peaceful park bench or a cozy nook at home. Take a few deep breaths and let your thoughts flow.
For some people, this reflection exercise will come easily; for others it will feel stretchy and uncomfortable. No matter how you feel, we encourage you to give it a go from a place of self-compassion and curiosity.
Here are some prompts to help you look back on 2024 with clarity and intention:
💫 How has your year been overall?
💫 What are you most proud of this year?
💫 When did you feel at your best this year?
💫 What have you let go of this year?
💫 Who has supported you the most this year?
💫 What have you learned about yourself?
💫 What challenged you the most this year?
💫 What didn’t go as planned this year?
💫 What has surprised you about this year?
If you’re happy to share, we’d love to hear about your own reflective practices, or how you found this one! Drop us a line at [email protected]. And if you are interested in connecting with others as you reflect on the highs, lows and in-betweens of your year, come along to our after-hours Members Connect Virtual Meetup on Tuesday 3 December, 7:30pm.
